Sveaskog is a leading supplier on the Swedish timber market.
In terms of the energy market, Sveaskog is the only nationwide supplier of biofuel. We are also running limited operations in the Baltic region with the import and export of timber and biofuel.
The Swedish sawn timber market has an annual turnover of about 80 million cubic metres of wood raw material, which is supplied by a small number of large forest companies, a large number of wood industry companies and some 340,000 forest owners. As a large forest owner, Sveaskog increases competition in the market because we are independent of the paper and pulp industries and because we actively trade in timber.
A division has occurred within Swedish forestry between the raw material side and industry. All the large industries previously had their own forest. Today several large forest and timber industries are dependent on stable suppliers with the capacity to provide them with the raw material they need. The rapid expansion within the energy sector is increasing the competition for wood raw material.
Sveaskog is also a leading player in the market for forest property and leaseholds for hunting, fishing and nature experiences. At the same time we are promoting the development of new areas of use for forest and land, such as wind power and ecosystem services. Forest, to us, implies much more than just wood.
