Forest growth

With regard to silviculture, Sveaskog has the goal of increasing forest growth.

Decor pictureWe estimate that we can increase growth in our own forests by about 20 per cent by 2030. This can be done within the framework of current environmental demands and forest conservation regulations, through, among other things, cultivated plants, improved planting and sowing, maintenance of existing forest ditches and improved nourishment balance in the ground through fertilisation.

There are several advantages with increased growth. We can use renewable wood raw materials instead of other materials such as concrete and steel in construction, or plastic in packaging. We can also replace fossil fuels in the production of electricity, heat and fuel. Last but not least growing forest binds carbon dioxide, a greenhouse gas, meaning that it has a negative effect on the climate and causes global warming.
