Sveaskog's road network

Road network for increased accessibility

There are at present 50,000 km of road on Sveaskog land. About 40,000 km of these are our own or are owned by interest groups which Sveaskog partakes in. The remainder are public roads.

Every year Sveaskog invests huge amounts in the construction of new and maintenance of existing roads. We do this so that we can run effective forestry. A tighter road network improves accessibility to timber, which, in turn, reduces transport costs.

More and better forest roads also reduce the need for terrain transports for forwarders, which move the timber from the felling compartment to the forest road. This benefits the environment for several ways. Partly through reduced damage to land and partly through reduced fuel consumption since a truck is more economical than a forwarder.

In addition to forestry operations and our contractors, industry and other forest owners also benefit from good forest roads. The general public is also free to use them. Consequently, they benefit holiday-home owners, hunters, berry pickers and outdoor pursuits enthusiasts by improving access to the forests.
