The forest's ability to bind carbon dioxide can be seen as a natural eco-system service. Other eco-system services are the forest's capacity to retain and develop biological diversity and to clean water. Climate change and increased environmental awareness are placing increasing demand on the services the forest provides. This gives it a more distinct market value.
Growing market
Already today there is a growing financial market for forest eco-system services. For example, the World Bank fund for carbon sink credits has a turnover of 100 million dollars. Sveaskog is represented on the board of the international organisation, Forest Trends, which collaborates with the fund. We predict a positive development of forest eco-system services, not least with respect to international climate policies.
