Nature conservation

A investment in future forest landscape diversity.

Both large and tiny animals live in the forests. We at Sveaskog feel that the way in which forest is cared for is important. Consequently, as the largest forest owner in the country, we work actively to create an ecological balance, a harmony between production and the environment. According to the authorities, environmental interest groups and nature conservation researchers, we are often leading the way in this area.

We have set ourselves ambitious environmental goals. Nature conservation is the highest priority in 20% of our productive forest throughout the country. This amounts to 650,000 hectares of nature conservation land.

Why have we decided upon 20%?

Because many research results, both in Sweden and abroad, show that this is the level required to conserve the most threatened species in the forest while continuing to run forestry operations.

20% nature conservation constitutes a large contribution to Sweden's environmental goals. We think of our nature conservation work as an investment. The plus points are many, even if they cannot always be measured in financial gain: rich biological diversity, nature tourism, eco-system services, experiences and the health and well-being of the present and future generations.
