In total there are 300,000 hectares of forest with high nature values that we are protecting or improving. This is the largest investment in nature conservation ever in Sweden. 10% of the forest in each region is assigned as conservation forest. We do not operate production oriented forestry at all in the nature conservation forests, only silviculture that benefits nature conservation.

Long selection process
We have walked many miles in the forest in order to stock take and assess all the nature values. There has also been a long selection process in which we have mapped out and prioritised in different stages, following a unique model we call consideration prioritisation. This has been compiled with referral to the authorities, researchers and non-profit organisations.
Simple principle
The principle we work by is simple: higher nature values are prioritised above lower ones. Forests with high nature values are, for example, old forests, key biotopes and nature reserves. We have also included forests that may attain these values in the future, designated as restoration forests. We are now working continually with silviculture and quality assurance of the nature conservation forests.
