We have guidelines stating our demands on silviculture and consideration for nature for the timber we buy from Swedish forest owners. We also have a policy which covers the timber we import.
With regard to the timber we buy outside Sweden, it must be possible to trace it back to its geographical origins. In order to deliver a product from one place to another, we have to know that the chain is complete, without deviation from consideration for the environment, social responsibility and ethics.
Wood raw material may not come from illegal felling, nature values forest or other controversial sources as defined by the Forest Stewardship Council®, FSC®. In order to minimise the risks, we check the traceability of all timber purchased from sources outside Sweden.
Sveaskog has two certificates for traceability, “Chain of custody” or CoC. One of these is based on the FSC standard and the other on the PEFC standard. Traceability certificates make it possible to guarantee the chain of events of the raw material – from the forest via industry to the consumer.
Sveaskog also cooperates with the World Wildlife Fund, WWF, on the development of responsible timber trading in the Baltic region. This is in order to further ensure follow-up and control of raw material flow.
