The research programme, Intelligent Vehicles Off-Road (IFOR), concerns the development of the interface between man and machine, machine and object, machine and terrain, and also between machine and machine. Design and functionality aspects are foremost.
One technology being developed is crane head steering. In this, the crane head is manoeuvred analogously using a single lever. A computerised control system relieves the operator. This improves both performance and the operator's working environment.
